Harout Balyan’s new album ‘Qez Em Sirelu’ is proving to be as successful as his previous album. With his first single and video for the title track ‘Qez Em Sirelu’ already generating lots of attention and requests on all Armenian Radio and TV stations. Harout was quick in releasing his second single which will probably be his biggest hit since the famed ‘Qez Sirum Em (Forever)’ featuring Chioma. The new song ‘Havatum Em (I will never leave you)’ has the same formula, a duet that’s a mixture of both Armenian and English singing. Featuring Klara Elias as the lead in English, the song takes us on another romantic journey into two lives filled with love, hope and desire. We are proud of Harout’s talents and his efforts in giving us quality music we can all cherish.

Please enjoy and share Harout’s new song and video ‘Havatum Em (I will never leave you)’ featuring Klara Elias.

DJ Davo’s newly released ‘iHouse’ album has been the talk of social media for the past 2 months. The highly anticipated album is a collective collaboration with some of the hottest established and up and coming young Armenian artists around today. The first video single which was released today is called ‘Dance’ and is a collaboration with record producer, manager and artist Novva and famed Armenian Pop singer Emmy. The song is a highly charged dance track produced by Araik “MG” Mouradian and written by Novva and SiAna.

Since Emmy is from Armenia and Novva from California, we caught up with Novva and asked him how this collaboration came to fruition:

“Emmy and I have known each other for years, but never had the opportunity to meet in person, my good friend Karen Aghasyan (AK Photography) introduced us officially a few months ago when Emmy was in Los Angeles. After we met, it only took us 2 days to record ‘Dance,’ our first track together.”

The next generation in Armenian artists have proven that they have what it takes to compete with today’s hottest westernized pop music. And we, as music lovers, now have a choice in basically all genres when it comes to Armenian music.

Continuing with our interview with Novva, he explains how the video came to be and who were the major players involved in bringing the visuals for ‘Dance.’

“Since it was picked up to debut on DJ Davo’s ‘iHouse’ and Emmy was due to visit Los Angeles again, We all decided to shoot a music video for the song and with the help of many people and in such a short amount of time, everything came together. Diana Kazandjian from DC Visions produced the video with directors Leeron Cohen and Hovik (Eurostyle Photography and Video). The location of the shoot and all the vehicles were provided by Designo Motors. We are grateful for everyone’s contributions!”

We want to thank Novva for the inside scoop and congratulate everyone involved in bringing this hot track to Armenian Pulse Radio and Armenians across the globe.

You can pick up your own copy of ‘iHouse’ in all participating Armenian record shops around Los Angeles, Glendale, Burbank, North Hollywood and other cities. Available soon on iTunes.

And now, the Armenianpulse.com premiere of DJ Davo’s ‘DANCE’ featuring Novva and Emmy.

We have been getting lots of requests for our monthly feature of Artist of the Month. Today we are proud to announce Arminka as our May 2012 Artist of the Month! Arminka’s musical style easily crosses over from Pop to Traditional, from heart wrenching love ballads to funky duets. It’s a style that exposes her raw talents!

Born, Armine Nahapetyan in Yerevan, 1973. Attended the famed Yerevan State Conservatory and after a five year successful run with the group ‘Hayer,” Arminka started her solo career and established her first hit “Andzrev.” After the astounding success of the song, she recorded a few more hits and then took very serious steps for recording her first album which was released in January 2003. The album titled after her first hit ‘Andzrev” was her starting point in becoming a pop star. This album was followed by successful tours and shows in both Armenia and abroad.

In October 2005, she released her second album simply called “Arminka.” Three years after, in October 2008, Arminka released her third album, “N 3″. Both CD’s produced sufficient hits to establish Arminka as a leading female Armenian pop artist!

Below is her latest song and video, a duet with very popular Armenian singer Arame, a traditional style song titled “Zov Gisher E.”

Enjoy and please share!

One of the most popular Armenian pop stars from Armenia, Mihran Tsarukyan, is visiting the United States. With his latest CD ‘Havata – Kprkem,’ Mihran has been on a media tour since he landed in LAX in Los Angeles. With 2 sold out shows in Glendale and Pasadena, Mihran is proving to be amongst the top rising young stars of our time. With good looks matching a great voice and fantastic songs, he’s by far the favorite of the young generation.

Anahit, Goddess of fertility, healing, wisdom, water, and war is an important part of Armenian history, mythology, and culture. According to the website of the British Museum, the fragments (head and hand) of Anahit’s bronze statue were accidently discovered in 1872 by a farmer digging the land in Satagh, south-eastern Turkey. The head made its way via Constantinople (modern Istanbul) and Italy to the dealer Alessandro Castellani, who eventually sold it to the British Museum. The hand was presented to the Museum a few years later.

An online petition was launched by Armenian American Gevorg Martirosyan who would visit the British Museum when he was a student and view the bronze head of Anahit.

The petition has reached over 1,500 signatures so far and we need everyone’s help to bring Anahit back home. The petition is sent to UK Secretary of Culture (Ed Vaizey MP), The British Museum, British Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Jonathan James Aves, British Ambassador to the Republic of Armenia, Katherine Jane Leach, and the Director of the British Museum, Neil MacGregor.

Although Mr. Martirosyan is grateful to the British for preserving this priceless Armenian artefact, he believes that the remains must be relocated to Armenia’s Museum of History where it belongs. We’re sure every Armenian in Armenia and in all of Diaspora wants Anahit’s return.

Please visit the Petition page and take a 5 seconds to voice your vote!

SIGN THE PETITION HERE

Here is an open letter from Gevork Martirosyan to all:

Join us in our campaign by petitioning the British Museum for the return of the fragments of Armenian pagan goddess Anahit’s statue to Armenia. The petition targets all the British officials that may be able to help us in restoring our heritage and educating all the tourists that the statue is of Anahit and that it is of Armenian provenance! Since the image of Anahit is so immersed in the Armenian culture, displaying this historic masterpiece in its original cultural context will allow it to be better understood. The time has come for Armenians to be in charge of the management of their cultural patrimonies and to be able to view a cornerstone of their history in their own country.

The widespread turmoil and deportations in the region of historic Armenia have robbed the Armenian people of the very artifacts that would represent the Armenian culture. The historic artifacts that have been scattered around the world throughout the many centuries of Armenia’s existence should not be presented to Armenians only through textbooks and encyclopedias. For that reason, we were able to successfully initiate an online campaign for the return of the fragments of Anahit’s statue. After gaining the support of the media and thousands of petitioners, the British Museum agreed to temporarily exhibit the remains of the statue in Armenia.

Although determining ownership of historical artifacts is no easy task, this is not just about a lendable piece of history; it is a country’s piece of heritage. The physical presence of these remains in Armenia will give the Armenian people the chance to visit their history in their museums or galleries without having the need to travel more than 2000 miles to do so. Although we are honored to have Anahit’s statue presented at the British Museum, we must have it returned to the Armenian people, issue an Armenian passport and then let her travel the world as a piece of Armenia’s history.

Egypt has recovered some 5000 of ancient artifacts over the years and 454 of which came from the British Museum. If we fail to spare 2 minutes of our time to submit a signature, we cannot expect anything to be returned to Armenia. Many of us, here in the diaspora, want to see Anahit’s statue returned home. So I urge everyone to join us in returning the goddess home: if you are a Christian who opposes pagan beliefs, do it in the name of the first Christian King Trdat who praised Anahit as the “…the glory of our nation and vivifier…mother of all chastity,” if you are a historian, do it for the sake of preserving a nation’s heritage and most importantly, if you are a common individual, start a promotion and see how people will be encouraged to help you. This petition not only gives us a chance to have the statue returned to Armenia, but each petitioner gets to read and become educated about our pre-Christian history and where our historical artifacts are being kept.

Thank you,

Gevorg Martirosyan

When asked why Armenia? Director Braden King describes:

This is easily the question I have been asked most often about HERE. There are many answers. The most honest is that Armenia is where the story led me. And once it had, I felt that there could be no more appropriate place to set this film.

Armenia was first suggested to me by a fellow filmmaker, Gariné Torossian. She didn’t make a big pitch, but she did subtly suggest that the country might be an intriguing place for me to explore for what was, at that time, a very vague idea about a mapmaker whose measurements weren’t adding up. In doing so, she quietly planted a seed. She watered that seed with a few articles about Armenian history and filmmakers like Paradjanov and Pelechian she sent along later.

For some time, I didn’t take the idea of shooting in Armenia too seriously. I’d been thinking about other locales – North Africa, Kazakhstan – parts of the world in which the lead character’s satellite-mapping work was prevalent and which were still “unmapped” in the cinematic sense. However, slowly but surely, I’d find my eye caught by an article on Armenia in the paper or Armenian landscape images I’d come across on the internet. I became fascinated with the country’s film history and creative culture, while at the same time finding it impossible to believe that something like Nagorno-Karabagh, a literally undefined territory (diplomatically, at least), still existed.

As I explored further, Armenia – its history, landscape, location, people and culture – became another collaborator, a third co-writer. When I visited for the first time in 2004, it was instantly clear that Armenia was the most precise lens through which to focus in on HERE’s story and themes. Within the first few hours of that very first trip, there was no place else to go.

Story Synopsis

Will Shepard is an American satellite-mapping engineer contracted to create a new, more accurate survey of the country of Armenia. Within the industry, his solitary work – land-surveying satellite images to check for accuracy and resolve anomalies – is called “ground-truthing”. He’s been doing it on his own, for years, all over the world, but on this trip, his measurements are not adding up.

Will meets Gadarine Najarian at a rural hotel. Tough and intriguing, she’s an expatriate Armenian art photographer on her first trip back in ages, passionately trying to figure out what kind of relationship – if any – she still has with her home country and culture. Fiercely independent, Gadarine is struggling to resolve the life she’s led in Canada and Europe with the Armenian roots that run so deeply, if unconsciously, through her.

There is an almost instant, unconscious bond between these two lone travelers; they impulsively decide to continue together. HERE tells the story of their unique journey and the dramatic personal transformations it leads each of them through.

Will and Gadarine move through Armenia and its remarkable landscape photographing measuring, and experiencing the trip in their own individual ways and, ultimately, through each other’s eyes. Their journey takes them across the length of the country, from the Lori region in the north to the Iranian border in the south, and finally into the diplomatically undefined Nagorno-Karabagh region. It is here that they are forced to confront their intensifying relationship and the difficult questions it raises.

Along the way, Will is continually challenged with erroneous data as his trip descends toward failure, while Gadarine encounters much more personal static: nationality, culture, family, old friends. As she starts to discover a new relationship with her homeland, Will begins to question the solitary life he has chosen.

The two become deeply connected as their sense of themselves – and their worlds – expands. As their trip comes to an end, each must deal with the conclusions to which their journey has led them – and each must decide where to go from HERE.
