Kita’s fusion of progressive rock, glam, electronica, and Radiohead-influenced experimentation is crafted by guitarist/vocalist Kitty Shockey, and keyboardist/pianist Fig DeKlotz. Bored by the lack of vitality in the local San Francisco scene, the two roommates began playing music together. They started the first incarnation of their band in 2009 while still crammed into one of San Francisco’s many punk housing co-ops, choosing the name of the group from
Kitty’s nickname, “kitatonic”. By the summer of 2010, the band mates settled on the idea of Kita and released their self-titled demo with seed money from their sponsors, a Houston-based music company called Musician’s Muse. The group’s intense, emotive sound, heavy guitars and dramatic live presence continues to draw acclaim and local-industry buzz.
